The inspiration for Emily's debut picture book Prince Bear & Pauper Bear is based on her personal experiences of coping with a rare voice disorder (Spasmodic Dysphonia). Through her voice journey, she found strength in God, and love and support from family and friends. She is close to full recovery.

Emily wrote and published her first manuscript as winner of a nationwide Publishing Initiative organised by Singapore's Media Development Authority (MDA) and Book Council. She has been hailed by MDA as Singapore's rising star and success story.

Emily’s inspiration for setting up Mustard Seed Books came from the “parable of the mustard seed” in Matthew 13:32 of the Bible - “Although the mustard seed is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come & perch on its branches.”

     This verse also sums up Emily’s aspirations for her books and her writing. Although she has started her writing journey with a little picture book, she hopes that her stories will serve a meaningful purpose and be read and enjoyed by many.
